Exploring the Heritage of Southern Mexico
Southern Mexico is home to an enormous diversity of artisanal traditions, materials, and techniques that have been passed down from generation to generation.
Just as we traveled through Mexico in our first space—from state to state and from artisan to artisan—we want to repeat this approach in our second gallery.
As we embark on this new chapter, we have decided to focus on Yucatecan folk art, introducing our visitors to pieces crafted from materials such as henequen, wood, and clay, as well as replicas inspired by Mayan art.
Highlights of our selection include pieces crafted by artisans from communities where traditional craftsmanship remains an integral part of daily life. Each work offers us a glimpse into different stories and ways of understanding the land, nature, and identity.
And our goal is to continue gradually exploring other states in southern Mexico, such as Campeche and Chiapas, to keep discovering new expressions of their folk art and bringing them to you.
